Zima lit up social media when word of its return leaked earlier this year.
As it turns out, this attention wasn’t just hype. Consumers are picking up a six-pack (or two) at a pace that has propelled Zima into the ranks of the top 10 malt beverage growth brands, as measured by Nielsen cross-channel data.
Zima seized 0.1 market share in Nielsen for the four weeks ending June 24, according to Nielsen. That quick ascent earned the iconic 90s brand the No. 7 spot on Nielsen’s list of top 10 growth brands.
The average case price: $35.09.
The other MillerCoors brand on the top 10 list is Keystone Light, at No. 3.
Zima, which was launched in 1994 and discontinued in 2008, returned to store shelves on June 12. It’s expected to sell out well before Labor Day.
“The 90s have become the quintessential decade for nostalgia, so it’s time for the return of our 90s icon,” Tristan Meline, senior marketing manager for Zima, told Behind the Beer News last month. “The press coverage and consumer feedback has been incredible.”
