Coors Brewing Company, which has been brewing great high-quality beers for more than 140 years, was recognized for its commitment to excellence at the 2014 World Beer Cup.
Coors Brewing Company and MillerCoors head brewmaster Dr. David Ryder were recognized as the champion brewery and brewmaster among large brewing companies.
On top of that, seven MillerCoors beers received individual honors. Those wins give MillerCoors a combined – and unmatched – 278 awards in the biennial World Beer Cup and annual Great American Beer Festival both hosted by the Brewers Association.
MillerCoors Chairman Pete Coors said the awards speak to the unyielding commitment of MillerCoors and its family of breweries to quality – and is a win for every brewer at MillerCoors.
“MillerCoors brewers are the best in the beer business,” Pete said. “The World Beer Cup awards are testimony to their creativity and brewing talent. Whether we are brewing consistently sessionable “big” brands or small-batch “craft” beers, our team of brewers is unmatched. They prove every day that brewing is not just a science practiced in big breweries but is also an art form practiced in those same breweries. I am personally proud of and grateful for our brewers’ accomplishments and continue to marvel at their brewing skills. The future of our company weighs heavily on our brewers’ shoulders, since satisfying the sophisticated and changing tastes of our consumers brings new challenges every day.”
Dr. Ryder on winning at the World Beer Cup
Behind the Beer caught up with Dr. Ryder to get his thoughts on the importance of quality, innovation and collaboration in brewing today.
What’s the significance for Coors Brewing Company winning this award? To be honest, I believe that our awards underline the continuing creativity infused in our people for the beers we produce, the uncompromising quality which is our hallmark and, as importantly, the attention to consistency of each brand, batch over batch, in order that we mitigate variability to always maintain the desired profile of each brand.
How do you plan to build on this success? In this new world where the consumer demands choice, we plan to continue to elevate the level of product possibilities for MillerCoors, continue to ensure that our brewing processes, are always based on tradition, and we will continue to delight the consumer for the future.
How do you collaborate with other brew masters throughout MillerCoors? We all work together as a Brewing community. As a matter of fact, the brewmasters of MillerCoors met last week in Golden to continue to challenge the status quo and to be sure that moving forward we are as efficient as possible while maintaining our exceptional quality standards.
